THE CLIENT

We were approached by an entrepreneur who had successfully grown businesses across a diverse range of industries. Due to a personal situation he had been supported by UK healthcare services for a prolonged period of time and felt that he could set-up a business that would provide a better and more innovative standard of care. This entrepreneur had no experience in the healthcare industry and so came to Collingwood to leverage the 20+ years that we have been partnering clients mainly within the private health sector.

THE ROLE

The role was for a CEO to set-up and drive rapid growth. Apart from that, our client had no particular area of healthcare that he wanted to invest in and so our challenge was to develop a strong candidate shortlist that would provide him with insights across the industry and ultimately a good choice for him to decide on where he wanted to invest his money and create his new business.

In essence, the role was not only a "blank sheet of paper", but we also needed to find an individual who new the UK healthcare market in-depth, who could advise on areas of predicted future growth and who had a successful track record of delivering a similar project. 

THE SOLUTION

We invested time with the CEO to get under the skin of his group of businesses, really understand its culture, its nuances and its vision and values. We used our 20 plus years’ experience in healthcare to help our client shape the role and identify what was and was not possible in respect of the candidates they could attract for the remuneration package on offer. The role was based anywhere in the UK and the challenge was finding candidates willing to take a risk on a newcomer to the industry.

Our agreed process combined a proactive headhunting exercise focused on researching and engaging with candidates who had launched new services and combined a strong commercial and operations background with designing a creative social media campaign to cast the net wide, online advertising in specific and relevant media and networking our significant network of individuals in the healthcare industry.

Through regular communications with our client to discuss candidate profiles we ended up with a strong long-list but circumstances led to our first introduced candidate being offered the role.

THE RESULT

We successfully appointed a new CEO first time and with little compromise against our agreed job specification and target remuneration package.
