This month’s theme is ‘owning the future’. Whether we’re headhunting for a commercial or engineering leader for IOT/smart orientated companies, a component of the role is strategising. And in the case of general management searches, buy build or partner is often included in the specification. Many of our candidates shoulder such responsibilities often for the very first time after taking a step up from a senior management role. One of my contacts who is in an ‘extreme’ role when it comes to ‘owning the future’ is Kris Kupilas, who is currently leading the transformation of ArcelorMittal’s global R&D function. Curiously, many of the first principals of his approach can be applied to other digital change roles. I caught up with him and he outlined his first 365 days in this hugely visible role.
