A new study by Homes for the North (a group of 19 housing associations) shows 500,000 homes are needed in the North to stop the ‘brain drain’ to London. They found there needs to be significant housebuilding over the next decade to hold onto the best minds. 500,000 is indeed a significant number, I can also imagine that there are many more reasons to build them, not just ‘brain drain’.

I refer to an earlier article that I published about a lack of confidence in the residential markets for the small to medium sized businesses, mainly sighting a lack of land to develop as their major concern. Combine this with a what was a regarded as a ‘middle of the road’ housing white paper earlier this year and some might see some discord in need and activity. Time and more importantly progress in the market will tell if these potential concerns materialise.
