I am forever bemoaning our failure to make use of our existing resources.  This research, highlighting the loss of such a significant number of robust and archetypal mills, is further evidence of  lost opportunities.

I realise that there will have been economic benefits to clearing sites for redevelopment, rather than completing complex conversion and refurbishments. However with smarter thinking and better access to grants, turning the many derelict and underused buildings back into usable, valuable assets must be of benefit to all.

Large scale housing developments are continuing, as are multi-storey residential schemes.  We have seen in the past how these can develop social issues; how many 60's towers are still standing, how many council estates turned into no go areas.

All I am trying to say is, please let us think before we demolish or develop.
