Bechtel promises Gatwick that it can deliver a second runway on schedule ahead of the Government’s decision on which airport will benefit from government support
Amjad Bangash, Bechtel’s infrastructure boss has given a personal guarantee on the £9.3bn project timeline
Gatwick Airport has locked in a £250m deal with construction giant Bechtel to guarantee the delivery of its planned second runway at the airport by 2025. Bechtel is understood to have offered the airport an iron-clad guarantee that it can deliver a second runway on schedule ahead of the Government’s long awaited decision on which airport will benefit from government support. The vote of confidence in the £9.3bn project’s timeline, given personally by Bechtel’s infrastructure boss Amjad Bangash, is seen by Gatwick as a key weapon in its battle to win out over the Heathrow expansion plans when the Government chooses between the two later this month.
