The latest Consumer Tracker from Deloitte has little surprises at present. It will be interesting to track confidence over the coming quarters as Brexit unfolds though.
The latest Deloitte Consumer Tracker shows that our overall measure of consumer confidence remains flat at -8. Overall consumer confidence is flat Consumer confidence in job security has fallen three points in the immediate aftermath of the EU referendum, and is down six points compared to this time last year. Confidence in job opportunities has also fallen since last quarter, showing consumers feel less certain about their job prospects as the consequences of Brexit continue to unfold. Consumer spending remains stable Our data shows that over the last three months consumers report spending more in almost every category compared to last year. Retail sales data shows sales values have performed relatively well over the first half of the year. In May, retail sales values were up by 3.4% on the previous year.
