Effective people management is such a strong driver of Engagement, which in turn produces positive outcomes in performance and productivity, etc but many managers fail to invest and take an active interest in the staff they are accountable for, and therefore, never fully realise individual's potential.
Engagement and empowerment represent admirable and desirable values but they are fundamentally means, not ends. The business purpose of greater employee engagement and empowerment is not happier employees but people who are more productive, innovative, and accountable for the choices they make.
